Riser installation on Maui
Cesspool and septic access ports can be buried from a few inches to several feet below ground. Exposing a port for pumping takes digging and can leave a large hole in the yard. Akamai Pumping Service installs risers to bring access closer to the surface, making it easier to find and reach for service now and in the future.
Why install a riser?
Pumping and maintenance happen every few years, and buried ports can be covered by landscaping or their location can be forgotten in the meantime. A riser keeps the access point easier to find for the next service visit. It also avoids having to repeat the same search and excavation each time the port is buried again, saving time and the cost of repeated digging.
Leaving a port exposed can create an eyesore and a hazard. An open excavation is also exposed to the elements and may collapse. A riser provides a more lasting access point while allowing the surrounding area to be finished after the work.
What to expect
Expose the access port. We locate and uncover the buried port. We prefer to dig by hand so we can feel what is beneath the soil as we proceed. Irrigation or electrical lines may run above a system, and careful hand digging helps reduce the risk of damaging them. We also have excavation equipment available where appropriate.
Install the riser. Once the access point is exposed, we install a riser to extend it closer to ground level and make it easier to reach later.
Finish the area. We complete the work around the riser and restore the yard as part of the job. You can expect a professionally finished result without needing to arrange a separate landscaper for the work area.
